Day 17 – I am fine-tuning…
As I get closer to the top of this mountain (Trinity Mountain is 9500 ft), I am fine-tuning. I often ask my coaching clients, when they feel they are stuck and not growing, “Do you know the difference between what you want and what you’re good at?” That’s a tough question. Sometimes, the gap between the two is huge. Most times, the gap is small and just a little fine tuning of what they want, aligns their abilities with their passion.
I love to climb mountains and I love to stand on top and look at the curvature of the earth. Truly, that is the reward I am looking for. When I get wealthy, I can buy a helicopter and fly to all the mountain tops and stand there looking at the scenery. But, you know… ‘mountain standing’ is not what I want. That’s not my passion.
‘Mountain climbing’ is my passion. In fact, helping others to climb mountains and seeing them stand on top and look in amazement at the world around them, is my true passion. And… you know what… I am good at that… Nay… I am excellent at that. I build companies, I build teams, I influence leaders and I have been doing it for over 40 years. I have changed organizations from the bottom-up that have gone on to change the world (someday I will tell you about that…).
My passion is not getting myself to the top but, building teams and leaders so they take themselves higher than they ever dreamed of. That is what drives me, what gives me satisfaction. See, just a little fine-tuning of the mission statement may make the difference between what you want and what you are good at, equal the same thing… Now, it’s time to go after what I am good at!
I am fine-tuning…
